Privacy Policy

Who I am

Pertinent is an AI governance and consulting practice. I am Chris McClean, based in Victoria, BC. This policy applies to pertinent.com and its tools, articles, and intelligence report services.

What I collect and why

I collect only what is necessary to respond to you or deliver a service.

When you use the Get in Touch form, you provide your name, email address, and a message. I receive that information by email and log it in a private spreadsheet for response tracking. It is not shared with third parties.

When you leave a thought on an article, you provide a written comment and optionally an email address. If you provide an email, a copy of your comment is sent to that address and to me. This information is logged in a private spreadsheet. It is not shared with third parties and is not displayed publicly.

If you are an intelligence report client, your contact information and the reports prepared for you are handled by email. Report files are stored on the Pertinent server. This information is not shared with third parties.

Server and hosting logs

This site is hosted on Network Solutions shared hosting. As with any web server, standard access logs are generated automatically. These logs may include your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. They are maintained by Network Solutions and are not actively monitored or used by me for analytics purposes.

Cookies and tracking

I do not use analytics tracking scripts or set cookies intentionally. Google Fonts are loaded on some pages, which may result in a request to Google's servers. No advertising cookies or third-party tracking scripts are present on this site.

AI tools

Some tools on this site use the Anthropic Claude API to generate responses. Content you enter into these tools is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. You should not enter personally identifiable or sensitive information into AI-powered tools. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that processing and is available at anthropic.com/privacy.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information you have provided. To make a request, contact chris@pertinent.com.

I operate in compliance with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where applicable.

I will update this policy as the site and its services evolve. The effective date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted here.
