Sam told me that he was sending out a newsletter each
month to his distributors. It seemed like a good idea
when he started, but the cost of postage was beginning
to mount. AND..he was suspicious that quite a few
distributors weren't opening the newsletter before it
went into the trash.
Sometimes it's good to think of letters in a different
way. For example, try to put your information on a
postcard. For a few creative individuals, postcards have
proven to be an extremely smart way to send out a
newsletter.
To begin with, a newsletter doesn't have to be opened.
Today I got two pieces of "junk" mail that I immediately
knew I had no interest in. The letter in the envelope
went straight into the trash. The postcard, though, got
my attention. It's message was sitting there in plain
sight just tempting me to read it.
With a small 41/4" by 51/2" postcard newsletter, you
have room for a greeting, several tips, and a close with
your name and contact info. It's quick to read and you
get a big break on the cost of postage.
If you're using Standard Mail (the new Bulk Mail for-
profit), go with the larger 51/2" high by 81/2" wide
card. Use small print (10 point) and you can get an
impressive amount of information on a newsletter
postcard of this size.
Want to REALLY impress someone? Try having your
postcard newsletter printed on 8-1/2" by 11-1/2" cards.
Make sure you use at least #110 index card stock (and
be prepared for the post office machines to mangle a
few).
